In a nutshell

Siemens Healthineers is a global medical technology company that provides innovative healthcare solutions. As Contract UX Designer for Accenture Song, I optimised the SOMATOM® go CT scanner family interface and created new segments, views and data visualisation components. Accenture Song had won an IF for the product design of the scanner, as well as a UX Design award for its Iconography. My concern was that the interface would make the work of the scanner operators easier with better usability and flow.

Medical staff only has seconds to understand a patient’s medical data because MRI scanners have to operate at high speed all day.

I had the opportunity to make an MRI interface easier and more intuitive to give nurses valuable minutes they can then spend on patient care.

UX Analysis

Processes, pain points, optimisation potential

The existing SOMATOM go interface needed optimisation to reduce the time staff needed to access patient data and perform the MRI workflow. I started by analysing the existing flow from existing user research material to isolate those seconds in the flow that could be optimised.

UI Analysis

Usability-, feature-, process - design analysis

Then I looked at existing MRI UIs from Siemens as well as its competitors in several countries relevant to the Somatom go market. I analysed usability, feature access times, sub-process sequence length and other factors relevant to reducing interface usage times. I created a CX/UX milestone plan from the findings (main elements of final analysis cannot be shown here)

Usability-, Usage-, Ergonomy - Study

I used material from a Siemens Healthineer team that had conducted a hospital field study to evaluate how ergonomical and time constrain factors influenced single- and multi-person MRI interface usage. (final analysis cannot be shown here)

UI design

UI optimisation of components, icons, colors, features, buttons, views

The UX/UI work then consisted of reworking the existing UI to incorporate the research findings. I modified UI components up to pixel details in order to reach maximum optimisation effect. I organised client stakeholder and sign-off meetings through many revision rounds and did final UI production.
